89 Courtenay Place
Wellington
Situated on Courtenay Place, the Capital’s premier entertainment district, this 1923 nine storey tower has undergone a multi-million dollar facelift.
Formerly the Colonial Motor Company building and a rare local example of a ‘flatted-factory’ building design, the York Street Façade of 89 Courtenay Place is in near-original condition. Originally used as a car assembly plant, boxed parts arrived through the top floor of the building with finished vehicles leaving from the ground.
The 2019 redevelopment of this Wellington heritage building into the 4.5 star Oaks hotel has provided Wellington city with an additional 226 hotel rooms.
