We have over 25 years’ experience and a proven track record when it comes to buying, selling and developing property. We are active community supporters of charities, sporting and cultural organisations.

Stonewood Group founders John & Michael Chow arrived from Hong Kong in 1984 aged 13 and 8 respectively, settling in Naenae, Wellington with their parents and two sisters. Attending Naenae College and Victoria University, the brothers began working from their parents’ takeaway shop in the mid-1990s.

The brothers formed Stonewood Group in 1999, which has grown today to include an impressive portfolio of extensive commercial property interests and a variety of businesses including Stonewood Homes, and RCR to name a few.

Malcolm Lindeque

Chief Operating Officer

Malcolm has over 27 years’ business
experience, primarily in senior financial and
management roles. He has more than 17
years’ experience with New Zealand
companies, ranging from small closely held
businesses to larger NZX listed entities and has
been involved in a range of sectors including
property, finance and manufacturing. Malcolm
has worked closely with Stonewood Group for
several years, and has recently become the
COO of the Group. He plays a leading role
in the running of Stonewood Capital.

Malcolm holds a Bachelor of Commerce
(Hons) from the University
of Port Elizabeth.

Cherise Barrie

Chief Financial Officer

Cherise has over 20 years’ experience in
financialservices, including having served
in a number of high-profile positions in
highly regulated entities. She has served as
Deputy CFO and Acting CFO for Westpac
New Zealand, as well as CFO of Heartland
Bank and Sovereign Insurance. Her focus is
on sustainably growing profit and business
value through strategic and financial
commercialism, whilst maintaining robust
financial controls and governance.

Cherise holds a Bachelor of Accountancy
from Massey University, is a Chartered
Accountant, and Member of the New
Zealand Institute of Directors.

Lilly Shi

General Counsel

Lilly has over 20 years’ experience in business,
property, acquisitions and disposals. She has
served as a trusted advisor and strategist to
large corporates, state-owned enterprises,
and ultra-high-net-worth family offices, in
multiple jurisdictions. Lilly was a co-chair of
business associations, and her current focus
is on the legal affairs across the Stonewood
Group and its affiliated companies.

Lilly holds a Bachelor of Laws and a
Bachelor of Business Administration
(Accounting).

Steven Zhu

Executive Director, Stonewood Homes

Steven has over 20 years’ experience in
operations and procurement in the property
and construction industries. Steven is
responsible for the day-to-day running of
Stonewood Homes, overseeing land
procurement and all of our large-scale
residential developments, in conjunction
with relevant franchises, and also serves
on the board of Stonewood Homes.

Steven holds a Bachelor of Commerce
and Administration from Victoria
University of Wellington.

Garry Ko

Executive Director, RCR Infrastructure

Garry has over 20 years’ experience in finance
and accounting across the infrastructure,
construction and travel industries. Garry is
responsible for the day-to-day running of RCR
Infrastructure, our nationwide engineering
company which specialises in the servicing
and installation of HVAC, refrigeration and
electrical equipment.

Garry holds a Bachelor of Commerce and
a Graduate Diploma in Commerce from
the University of Auckland, and is a
Chartered Accountant.

Karl Gill

Procurement Director

Karl has over 9 years’ experience in
procurement following a 12-year career
in the New Zealand Defence Force. He has
held procurement roles at Fletcher Building
and Sky City Entertainment Group prior to
joining Stonewood Group, and currently
oversees procurement across Stonewood
Group, Stonewood Homes and Stonewood
Commercial.

Karl holds a Bachelor of Business Studies
from Wellington Open Polytechnic.

John Chow

Co-Founder & Managing Director

John is a self-made entrepreneur and
visionary, with an eye for adding value
and creating wealth. His hunger for success
and will to win, has resulted in building a
successful property and business empire
worth in the region of half a billion dollars,
which he oversees the running of.
John formed Stonewood Group with his
brother Michael in 1999 which today includes
interests in group home building, commercial
property, hotel development, investment,
gyms, serviced offices, and food courts.

John holds a Bachelor of Science
from Victoria University of Wellington.

Michael Chow

Co-Founder & Executive Director

Michael has over 20 years’ experience
in the property, finance and hospitality
industries. Michael has overcome adversity
and excelled within his business ventures.
Now a high-profile figure in New Zealand,
he has transcended the typical entrepreneurial
blueprint, and together with his brother John,
created a vast empire of wealth, making the
Chow name synonymous with success.
Michael oversees the group’s commercial
division and major developments.

Michael holds a Bachelor of
Commerce and Administration from
Victoria University of Wellington.

Vicki Chow

Executive Director

Vicki has over 25 years’ experience in
marketing and operations, with a proven
track record driving strategy and operational
innovation across a multi-faceted group model.
She serves on the board of Stonewood Homes
and oversees franchise management operations
across a network of 19 franchises nationwide.
In addition, Vicki plays a leading role in our
hotel developments, and oversees marketing,
administration, sponsorships and network
opportunities across the Group.

Vicki holds a Bachelor of Commerce
and Administration from Victoria
University of Wellington.

Jenny Chow

HR Director

Jenny has over 20 years’ experience in HR
and general management across the hospitality,
property and construction industries. Her broad
experience in operations and HR leadership
enables her to effectively anticipate and identify
the Group’s current and future staffing
requirements.

Jenny holds a Bachelor of Commerce
and Administration from Victoria
University of Wellington.

EXTERNAL ADVISORS

David Kennedy

Consultant

David is an experienced director and chief
executive. He has held CEO roles with Ngai
Tahu Property, The Eden Park Trust and St
Lukes Group/Westfield NZ.

David has also held senior roles with
SKYCITY Entertainment Group. He now
concentrates on board directorships and
advisory consulting work. David has
significant experience in the property,
building, government relations and
entertainment sectors.

David is on the board of Eke Panuku
Development Auckland, Naylor Love
Construction and the New Zealand Housing
Foundation.

David holds a Bachelor in Town
Planning and Management from
the University of Auckland.

Paula Bennett

Consultant

With over 15 years as a Member of
Parliament, a senior Minister for 9 years,
Paula held 14 portfolios including social
housing, associate finance, social
development and State services.

In 2017 she became the Deputy Prime
Minister of New Zealand and the National
Party’s Deputy Leader.

Since retiring from Parliament in 2020,
Paula now works in commercial property,
consults on public and private partnerships
and does a range of TV, speaking and MC
work.
