WHO WE ARE
We have over 25 years’ experience and a proven track record when it comes to buying, selling and developing property. We are active community supporters of charities and sporting/cultural organisations. Stonewood Group founders John & Michael Chow arrived from Hong Kong in 1984 aged 13 and 8 respectively and settled in Naenae, Wellington with their parents and two sisters. Attending Naenae College and Victoria University the brothers started working from their parents' takeaway shop in the mid-1990s. The brothers formed Stonewood Group in 1999 that today includes extensive commercial property interests, a variety of businesses including Stonewood Homes, RCR, STC (Hong Kong) to name a few.
John is an entrepreneur and visionary, with an eye for strategic planning. His self-admitted hunger for success and the will to win has resul…ted in building a successful property and business portfolio from the humble beginnings of running a Chinese takeaway. John’s transition from small business owner to becoming a corporate entity and rich-lister has taken effort, a clear understanding of where he wants to go and the fearlessness to predict and react to market changes before they happen. John formed the Chow Group with his brother Michael in 1999 which today includes interests in nonbank financing, commercial property, health and fitness, hotels and lodging, entertainment, serviced offices, home building and food and beverage. Day to day, John takes the lead on Stonewood Group. John’s 5-year master goal for Stonewood Group is achieving $2b asset by 2023. John’s sub‐goals are: 2023 – 10 hotels by 2023 2024 – Stonewood Homes to be the largest homebuilder in New Zealand 2025 – Private fund of $1b by 2023
Michael is the younger of the two Chow brothers, who as an entrepreneur has overcome incredible odds to achieve success. His strength is ope…rations management. With a hands-on approach to the day to day, Michael has solid market insights in the sectors where the brothers operate and an enviable network of movers and shakers. Today, just like his brother John, Micheal is reaping the rewards of his hard work, moving from the family-owned Chinese fast food outlet to being the co-owner of a $400m commercial property and business portfolio. The responsibility for the commercial property side of the business, overcoming battles with councils, and changing perceptions has not only honed his desire to succeed but been a key to success. Michael also takes day to day responsibility for Urban Hub Serviced Offices, Capital Market Food Court, Exodus and the vast entertainment portfolio. Like John, Michael is driven to achieve $1 billion in assets by 2020.
Jenny graduated from Victoria University with a BCA degree and has 20 years’ experience within accounting, administration, operations, facilities, and office management. Jenny oversees the running of our HR team with her vast experience in improving the company’s procedures and processes. She has seen the company grow from a humble beginning to a $400m property empire. With such a busy work life, she enjoys to relax with a spa or spending time with her family and loves to travel.
Vicki studied a BCA at Victoria University and gained experience in roles within New Zealand and Hong Kong. She has played an integral role …at Stonewood Group where she has been responsible for business innovation, marketing and events for more than a decade. With an eye for detail balanced with a creative streak, Vicki also provides senior management advisory support to Exodus Club. She is now responsible for the group’s hotel portfolio and driving owner expectations with appointed hotel management companies. Beyond the office, Vicki is married with three kids who keep her on her toes.
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR - STONEWOOD HOMES
Steven has 15 years’ experience in commercial development projects, operations management, property and facilities management. Steven, now b…ased out of Auckland, oversees the start-up of various new business and hotel projects, such as Capital Market and Park Ave Residence, also dealing with ongoing work involving residential tenants and commercial leasing. He has been also appointed as the Executive Director of Stonewood Homes and has been instrumental in growing the business manifold. Steven aims to make Stonewood Homes the largest builder in New Zealand with over 20 franchisees nationwide.
CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
Brent has put his Bachelor of Business Studies degree from Massey University to good use in a multi-faceted business career that includes 15 …years of experience as a private taxation and business consultant. Brent provides a business advisory role across the entire the Stonewood Group, specialising in strategic planning and review of contractual matters affecting day-to-day group business decisions, as well as providing business management support. Due to the group having a strong presence all over New Zealand, Brent spends a lot of time away from home, so enjoys his remaining time with his family, which extends to no less than 8 children. His golf game, unfortunately, remains on hold.
GROUP FINANCIAL DIRECTOR
Karl has almost 20 years’ experience as an officer and leader in the Royal New Zealand Navy focusing on Logistics and Operations. Having trav…eled to over 60 countries and experienced many different cultures, Karl is solution focussed and value driven. Karl has also worked with leading brands such as SkyCity Entertainment Group and Fletcher Building. In his current role as the Procurement Director for the Stonewood Group, Karl supports the Stonewood Commercial team in their various projects in sourcing local and offshore solutions. He also supports Stonewood Homes across their national supplier agreements and campaign activity, and he is also the Government Lead for Stonewood Group’s participation in the KiwiBuild and Housing NZ Redevelopment programmes, looking into innovative offsite manufactured solutions for consideration in future projects. Karl’s exceptional leadership skills are extended beyond work as he acts as the President of the Rodney District Sports and Community Association (RDSCA) focusing on delivering sport and community participation for youth around the Rodney District. He enjoys playing football and touch rugby and spending time with his two kids aged 4 and 5.
CHIEF INVESTMENT OFFICER (HK)
Keith graduated from the University of Leicester with a Post Graduate Certificate in Business Administration and has over 20 years’ experience spread around accounting, banking, strategic planning and corporate finance. Keith has work with one of the world’s leading resorts, hospitality, and gaming companies for 12 years prior to joining Stonewood.
As Chief Investment Officer of Stonewood Group, Keith is responsible to build Stonewood’s Hong Kong Office, supporting the growth and expansion of the Group.
Born and raised in Hong Kong to a reputable Eurasian family, Keith is fluent in English and Chinese (Cantonese). Keith has a passion for sports and photography. He was a Senior League cricketer in Hong Kong for over 25 years. With a busy and exciting career, Keith enjoys spending time relaxing with his wife and two furry doggies
VICE PRESIDENT - HOTELS
Girish Shetty is a graduate from Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration – one of the top hotel schools in India. He began his hotel career with the Leela Group and has also worked with two pre-opening hotels – Park Royal in New Delhi and The Regent in Mumbai. With 28 years of experience in the hospitality sector, he possesses a wealth of knowledge in senior roles across Sales & Marketing, Hotel Operations, Development and Acquisition’s in the domestic and international markets working with Ginger Hotels which is owned by Tata Enterprise and operates 35 hotels in India, he has also worked with Sahara Worldwide who owned the JW Marriott Grosvenor House in London and The Plaza – Fairmont Hotel in New York. As Vice President of Hotels, he is responsible for managing the owners’ interest in The Pullman Rotorua and The Oaks Wellington while overseeing the development of future plans for Hotels and Resorts in Wellington, Christchurch, Auckland, and other locations within New Zealand. Out of work Girish loves travelling and experimenting with local and international cuisine.
